Today, we celebrate every girl in the world to recognize how hard being a girl is even to this day. This started In 2011, when the United Nations declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child as the result of youth advocacy around the world. Its mission is “to help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential.”
In simple words, the day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. This is also a day when activist groups come together under the same goal to highlight, discuss, and take action to advance rights and opportunities for girls everywhere.
The theme of this year’s October 11 celebration is “Girls’ Progress = Goals’ Progress: A Global Girl Data Movement”, because, as the United Nations writes, we need more numbers to help more girls:
“There are 1.1 billion girls today, a powerful constituency for shaping a sustainable world that’s better for everyone. They are brimming with talent and creativity. But their dreams and potential are often thwarted by discrimination, violence and lack of equal opportunities. There are glaring gaps in data and knowledge about the specific needs and challenges that girls face.”
Across the world, empowered girls are raising their voices to fight for their rights and protection in all contexts. They are working to end violence against women and girls, to recognize indigenous rights, and to build peaceful and cohesive communities.
Oleia Topical Oil supports International day of the Girl Child. We believe in girls and with their limitless individual potentials to change the world into better place. We recognize the challenges they are facing and their perseverance to get going. Girls worldwide deserve better: better education, better protection, better access to resources, better health outcomes, and a better future. Making the world better for girls makes the world better for everybody, period.
