"One of the prominent treatments that most Filipinos believe are effective is the lizard tail. In this asthma myth, the lizard’s tail is grilled or dried and then boiled into a pot of boiling water."

Flat Avatar: 2 girls and a guyLots of traditional asthma remedies are still widely used by many. Normally, these traditional meds are suggested by the elderlies that, according to them are effective. This write-up does not intend to ruin the beliefs or disregard the norms but rather tell those who are suffering from asthma that there is a more realistic treatment, as natural as traditional yet as effective as the modern medicines.

LizardOne of the prominent treatments that most Filipinos believe are effective is the lizard tail. In this asthma myth, the lizard’s tail is grilled or dried and then boiled into a pot of boiling water. Right after it was boiled for 10 to 15 minutes, the asthma patient is now ready to drink the extract or the boiled water itself. Until now, it’s still not proven to be a legit cure for asthma or any breath shortness.

Another hoax that some are gullibly believing is letting the asthma patient eat a dog meat in whatsoever recipe they want. It was certainly commended to do if he or she is still a child or toddler to prevent the asthma from worsening. According to an acquaintance and based on his own experience while he’s just a child, his dad made him eat dog meat. After that, though not immediately, his chest tightness was gone.

Plumeria/Kalachuchi flowers and leavesA herbal treatment was also used by several asthma patients and this includes Plumeria or Kalachuchi leaves. The method for this semi-traditional med is quite simple. Just get 2 leaves of Kalachuchi then roll and smoke it like a cig. However, the efficacy of this cure is still unknown.  Though many have testified in favor of it, doctors and experts are still not recommending this for the asthma patients.
