I Am Fat… So What?!

I Am Fat… So What?!

Ok, I am Fat

Every time I look at the mirror, I always wonder what if I was 30 lbs. lighter? What if I can go to the beach and flaunt my stunning tan in a two piece bikini swimsuit without scaring the heck out of all the men around? What if, I was sexier? Sometimes, these insecurities bother me. But as they say, LOVE conquers all! And with my LOVE FOR FOOD, my insecurities go away!

To be honest, I don’t think I am fat. It’s just that I am way too smart that my head could not contain all of the intelligence inside it slipped down my body. 🙂 Yep, that is denial at its finest. Well, at least I have a good rebuttal to those who open a conversation, “mare! ang taba taba mo!”. I am not obese, I am probably just a few pounds heavier than what women my height should be. (not sure how many pounds over though… last time I checked the weighing scale, I broke it! haha)

This is the TV and advertising industry’s fault. Women were made to believe that you have to have that bottle figure in order for you to be called sexy. That you have to be able to wear those skimpy shorts and save cloth and animals from dying. Common, let’s face it, at one point in our lives, we all wished we could be slimmer, toner, sexier. And some have probably spent some fortune to maintain those.

I have tried to trim down my weight. I had a membership in the gym, I tried jogging every morning, I even became conscious about my calorie intake everyday. All of these were futile. The same way I expected to meet my prince charming at 23 and live happily ever after. They were just fairy tales.

But I am not loosing hope. I am not giving up.

I will wait for my forever and ever who will love me despite my size. Who will eat buffet with me and hug me like I’m a giant stuffed teddy bear! I have accepted the fact that I am really too smart! ….uhm… ok, I am really fat! So what?!

If there’s one thing I can be grateful for, it’s that I still feel that despite my weight, I am healthy. Ok, some of you will probably debate and argue, how come? For one, the worst I had for the past year is cough and colds. A slight fever that never lasted a day. Having said that, it became clear to me that the knee-jerk connection I and apparently others might make between how much a person weighs and how physically fit and healthy she is needed some serious reevaluation. So I did some research…

Recent study suggests that being overweight or even obese may not, in and of itself, be the health threat we think it is. A 2012 study from the National Cancer Institute found that moderately obese people actually lived about 3.1 years longer than normal-weight women and men.

source European Heart Journal

None of this is to say that we can pack on pounds without worry. Carrying a lot of weight around increases stress on joints and can make us less inclined to be active.

Good thing I have Oleia Topical Oil handy for my joints and muscle pains!

But that does not justify my intent on doing an eating barrage. There’s also the plain reality that the more overweight you are, the more likely it is that your metabolic health will take a hit, now or in the future.

Having said all these, I am calling out all the other buffet ladies out there, let’s start the road to being healthier! Here’s what I plan on doing the next few months and I will keep you posted on my progress!

  • I have fully accepted the truth. I am fat and beautiful. That is the truth. But I have also learned to understand what my preference is. I prefer to be called beautiful only. 🙂
  • I am not quitting anymore.  I learned that even if people do lose some weight from exercise, they often don’t lose as much as they expect to. For many, that’s reason enough to abandon their routines and head back to the couch.
  • I will not stop moving just because the scale has.  I will be out there almost every day, walking, biking, hiking, or weight lifting. I will feel comfortable in my body.
  • I have decided to look great all the time. Enough with the shapeless sweats and tees! I am wearing fab plus-size selections moving forward.

If you’re like me, that makes the two of us. You are not alone. We are not. There’s nothing wrong with our love for food. What is life if we can’t enjoy simple pleasures of life. If we can’t order what we want and jump in buffet tables like it’s our last.

But the most important of all is our love for our bodies that will encourage us to take care of it better.

Who’s Your Hero & What It Really Takes To Be One

Who’s Your Hero & What It Really Takes To Be One

Hero vs Superheroes

Lately, I have been hooked to watching Netflix’s “Marvel” superhero themed series’. It all started with the first Iron Man movie and since then I have been grabbing every opportunity to bum a little and sneak a movie or a couple of episodes more often than not.

My fascination for superheroes long started when I was a kid. The first I remember really following was DC’s Superman when I was 7. Man, I have been a Clark Kent fan since then. I even had a tattoo representing the man faster than a speeding bullet on my back albeit with the letter “W” instead of the big “S” there. That’s because sometimes, I have been day dreaming what it’s like to be someone with super powers… what if I could fly around, wear my undies outside my pants and save people from danger? I think that would be cool and awesome!

But then again, super powers are just a by product of someone’s wild imagination. The comics and the movies magnified this and somewhat made it seem real- which is why kids (and even some adults) bought the idea that maybe, super heroes do exist. But to be honest, I have never seen or met a real superhero my entire life. True enough, I have seen a lot of copy cats- the most recent was this year’s Comic Con festival. But other than these types of events where we all get a chance to dress up like our superheroes, none was able to display super powers that made them special. So at 33 years old, I am still on a quest to find the real Kal-el.

Today, we our celebrating the “National Heroes Day” and I am excited!

It’s a holiday and I got a whole day to chill a little and not think about work or business. Today, I get a time to spend with my family and play with my kids. I got a 4 year old, a 2 year old and a 6 month old. Simply put, a kid every two years and yet I haven’t produced one with super natural abilities. Who knows… maybe the fourth will be my charm! Something I have to convince my wife to agree with first. 😉

As I was preparing the list of my activities today, it made me wonder… how many of us Filipinos still really consider this day sacred? How many of us still remember what our heroes have done for the country? Do we still share the same ideals and love for the country that they’ve had? These heroes/sheroes have dedicated their lives to make the Philippines a better place to live in. But are are we continuing what they started?

Yes, we’re no longer at war and there’s no need to die or kill the opposition any more. But each day should be a fight. A battle within ourselves to continue to make a difference in the country and for the next generation.

Some have the Andres Bonifacios in them while others have the Jose Rizals. There are a few who are the Gabriela Silangs and then some who’d rather not be in the lime light. Different characteristics and personalities but the commitment and passion’s the same. The motivation may be diverse but the intentions are pretty much similar regardless of the situation.

Heroes impact the lives of people around them.

The question is, what really makes a hero? I like Pamela’s (Soapboxie.com) definition of a hero is…

Definition of “Hero.”

  • A Hero is someone who rises up, from whatever their situation in life is, or whatever their circumstances are, and comes to embody a representative of the highest level that a human being can attain.
  • A Hero is someone who knowingly and voluntarily makes a conscious decision to sacrifice something of one’s self for the greater good of others.
  • A Hero doesn’t seek notoriety or praise for personal glorification, but instead, uses whatever attention he receives to perpetuate his achievements to a greater degree.
  • The actions of a hero make a positive impact on another, or many, so as to change or alter the outcome of a situation that would otherwise be detrimental.
  • A Hero contributes something beneficial to the world for the betterment of humanity as a whole, or for the spiritual world in creating a path that leads us all in higher directions.
  • A Hero does not expect compensation for their heroic deed.

If I can simplify the above, what really makes a hero is someone who has courage, selflessness, humility, patience and care. As we enjoy today’s holiday, let’s take some time to look ourselves in the mirror and ask ourselves… What have I done lately that makes me a hero to somebody?

Remember, we may not have “super powers” but it is easier to be courageous, selfless, humble, patient, and caring.

In short, we all have heroes in us. We just have to wake them up.

P.S. – While your reflecting on how you can be a hero to your family, community and country, play this song in the background. It’s a good inspiring one! 🙂

What Floyd and Connor Can Teach You About Life

What Floyd and Connor Can Teach You About Life

Floyd vs. Connor

Today’s highly anticipated fight between two of the most colourful personalities in the world of fight sports is a few hours away. While we’re all excited to see who really is the better fighter, it is also worth noting that anybody involved in this fight will earn a ton of cash after today.

The minimum each fighter will earn is $100million for Floyd Mayweather and $30million for Conor McGregor. However, if PPV revenue stays in line with the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout back in 2015, the fight purse is likely to be worth some $300million, with total revenues at $700million. Wow, that is more than enough for one to live a lifetime of luxury! So, before the bets go out for today’s fight, let’s have a quick overview of both fighters:

Known as “Pretty Boy” early in his career for his unmarked face, Mayweather, with his fast, precise style, won the national Golden Gloves in 1993, 1994 and 1996. Mayweather turned professional on October 11, 1996. Simply put, He is a five-division world champion, having won 15 world titles and the lineal championship in four different weight classes (twice at welterweight), and is undefeated in his professional career. Mayweather has generated approximately 19.5 million in PPV buys and $1.3 billion in revenue throughout his career, surpassing the likes of former top PPV attractions including Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Oscar De La Hoya, and Manny Pacquiao.

Connor is an Irish professional mixed martial artist and professional boxer who is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion, and former UFC Featherweight Champion. During his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, McGregor has competed as a featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight. As of 2017, McGregor is ranked 3rd on UFC’s Pound for Pound rankings. McGregor has established himself as the biggest pay-per-view (PPV) draw in MMA history as he has main-evented four out of the six highest selling pay-per-view events in UFC history.

As you see, both are accomplished fighters. And both are highly watched and anticipated everytime they have a fight. So it is no wonder why today’s match is as hyped as their previous bouts. It is also worth noting that Connor is jumping ship from MMA and Floyd just stepped out of his retirement. But before you go and pick whose side you’ll be willing to put your bet on, let’s take a look at what boxing can teach us a thing or two about life. If you are like me who’s a “TRY ATHLETE”… meaning, you try every sports available even if your skills don’t match at all and just after the lessons you can get from one, and so here’s from boxing:

Lessons You Can Learn From Boxing

Balance

Balancing is hard especially when you got someone punching your head. Well, boxing teaches balance. It teaches you to move your head and feet swiftly so you don’t get knocked out. When a boxer has balance, it is easier for him to counter attack. The same concept applies to life. If we know how to balance our lives and set our priorities right, we don’t get easily knocked down. If we stand firm in our beliefs and convictions, the punches of life won’t move us or knock us out.

Reaction

In boxing you need to read your opponent’s tendencies, patterns, and strategies in order to both defend yourself and attack. Each time your opponent throws a punch, it provides you with an opportunity to slip his advance and give a counter strike. If a boxer doesn’t have good reaction, he’ll endanger his life and the odds of winning his match. Reaction is a crucial component in life. We are defined by how we react to failure, success, and adversity. When life throws a punch, are you prepared to react in positive and productive ways? Reacting properly toward our adversity in life will increase your chances of success.

Practice and Preparation

Every time a fight is scheduled, it begins the months of preparation for a fighter. The daily grind and exercises, the stricter diet and a more disciplined lifestyle takes place. Every fighter is dedicated to perfection. Every fighter’s motivation is to get better before the actual fight. In our lives, we all have dreams and ambitions, and like everyone, we all must start at the bottom. Life does not give things easily, we have to work hard for them. If we want to achieve something, we have got to work for it. Our dreams will only be as big as our hard work and dedication. If we don’t then we should not expect to win.

Life is a fight in which our opponent is fear, adversity, failure, and anything standing between us and our dreams. Navigating the fight with preparation, proper reaction, and a balanced life will help set the framework for a success.

So, as we all watch today’s fight, let’s also take note of how Floyd Mayweather and Connor Mcgreggor applied the above to win today’s match. Good luck to both fighters and I hope you put your “money” on the better fighter. Enjoy!

6 Simple yet Effective Ways to Make Your Baby Feel Loved

6 Simple yet Effective Ways to Make Your Baby Feel Loved

Babies are adorable. They smile, they cry, they keep you up at night. According to one biblical psalm, Children are a gift
from the Lord, and they rightfully are. But because they are so young, words cannot be used to tell them how much we
love them. However, the good thing is that love can be communicated in different ways. Here are some proven ways to
show your baby how much you truly love them:

1. Look your baby in the eye – Babies first communicate with their eyes. Even if their eyesight is not that great,
looking at them and establishing eye contact lets them feel secure and loved. That is why it’s important to catch
their gaze every time they look at you.

2. Put the phone away – One major life stealer is our phones. They steal away time that should be spent with
what matters most. Babies can already feel if you are just there but not engaging them when you spend time
looking at your phone instead of talking and focusing on them. Take time off your gadgets and help your baby
understand that she is the most important thing in the world for you.

3. Cuddle your baby – There is no such thing as over cuddling. Babies need to be cuddled as much as possible
because even if they are months old, they are still adjusting to the new world. Cuddling them will enhance their
sense of security and will phenomenally help their self-esteem not only during their childhood years, but on the
years to come.

4. Respond to your baby’s cries – Crying spells are baby’s way of telling you that something is wrong. They can
usually be one of three things: They are hungry, they feel pain, or they are stressed. One wrong superstition that
is being passed down is that you just let them cry because it is an exercise for them. Babies, when left
unattended to when crying may develop future insecurities in their later life. When they are not attended to, they
lose their sense of safety and can end up having trust issues as they grow older.

5. Go nude – occasional skin to skin time with your baby especially in the early months can help regulate their
heart rate and breathing.

6. Massage – there are a lot of benefits in giving babies a massage. Some of them includes enhancing the immune
system and intellectual development. That is why regular massage time with your little one can be very special.

For more fun and relaxing massage time, use Oleia Topical Oil to massage your baby. Oleia is non-irritant and is
made up of all-natural elements that is guaranteed to make you and your baby feel safe when using it.

Investing in loving on your baby now can reap fruits of many blessings later in life. You don’t have to wait till they are
teenagers to express all the love you have for them. Start today!

TARA! Let’s watch the stars.

TARA! Let’s watch the stars.

While I was comfortably watching the television,

I suddenly wanted to drink a hot cup of choco. I went to the kitchen and made one. I went back and watched the STARS that were exchanging their scripts while threatening each other. It’s really funny how they call themselves stars. I turned off the tv and stared at the black screen. The scene from the outside reflected on my television; I can see the STARS.  I went out and brought my hot choco to witness the stars glimmer. I always wonder how they can be so beautiful from afar but in reality they are gigantic balls of fire that can melt planets in an instant… how it can kill us without us knowing that we’re already dead.

I took a sip and looked at the stars again.

I wonder how we consider ourselves important; how we call the celebrities STARS. As I looked at the peaceful night sky I realized that this planet is only a dot, a pale blue dot; an insignificant dot in the universe. It’s really funny how our wealth can’t match up with how vast the universe is yet we consider ourselves powerful.

STARGAZING

I took a sip again and a friend of mine passed by,

I said “Hi do you wanna join?”

He said “Join what?

Then I replied “STARGAZING”.

NERD FRIEND!” he yelled.

YOU FRIEND!” I said.

He sat next to me, took my hot choco and sipped. We share the same sentiments about STARS and so called STARS. As our conversation go deeper, he asked me this odd question,

“Why do you always shine whenever I look at you?”

I think my heart skipped for a moment and asked him “WHAT?

he replied “NEVERMIND YOU NERD”.  “Now you know why people compare celebrities to stars” he added.

HEHE alright Mr. Romantico” I said.

He got up, brushed the dirt off his khaki colored pants and said goodbye because he needed to go home.

What a night!

As I finished the last drop of my hot choco, my tummy suddenly ached; I have lactose intolerance by the way. I suddenly felt the urge to use the bathroom. After defecating, I looked for the topical oil that I bought because my stomach was still aching. I felt cozy after I applied it on my tummy.   It smelled nice and it is OLEIA.
